About this course

Level 1 Engineering Course in Warwick. Classes run at Warwick Trident College, full-time during the day. Tuition is free if you're under 19 or hold an EHCP. If you're 19 or over, fees may apply, though waivers are available based on income or benefits.

The course covers core engineering principles, practical skills, and hands-on technical training. You'll spend a year building the foundation knowledge that engineering employers and further training programmes expect. Topics include engineering processes, materials, and workshop practice. All students may be charged for materials, equipment, and trips.

You'll finish with a City and Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Engineering.

Who this course is for

The WCG Drive Engineering programme is a specialist 14-16 study pathway designed for young people who want a more practical, career-focused route through Key Stage 4, with dedicated staff guiding learners academically and personally. This programme combines hands-on engineering training with GCSEs in essential subjects, providing a strong foundation for further study, apprenticeships or technical careers. WCG Drive is ideal for young people who are currently in Year 9 at school, or are electively home educated, and about to enter Year 10, and have an interest in engineering, manufacturing, machines and processes that use maths and science. Students learn in industry-standard workshops and classrooms, developing practical skills, technical knowledge and professional behaviours linked to real engineering environments. The course is ideal for learners who are motivated by applied learning and want a clear route into engineering, manufacturing or related industries. There is a strong focus on employability skills, teamwork and health and safety. Ongoing academic and pastoral support is available throughout the programme. The WCG Drive programme is delivered within distinct classrooms in our school-within-a-college facilities, which are separate from our 16-18 and 19+ provision at Warwick Trident College. Practical lessons are delivered in specialist engineering workshops by experienced industry-trained staff. Learners are supported in a calm, structured environment with smaller class sizes and dedicated staff who help them build confidence, resilience and independence. Learning at WCG Drive extends beyond the classroom, with enrichment activities, employer-led projects and structured study time designed to support personal growth and future readiness. Throughout the programme, employability skills, professional behaviours and real-world industry insight are embedded into learning.
