About this course

Free Level 1 Employability Skills Course in Bury. Classes run at Bury College, full-time over one year, starting each September.

The course is for 16 to 18 year olds who have an Education, Health and Care Plan and want to move into employment. You take part in three work placements with local employers, supported by a job coach. Units cover vocational profiling, CV building, job searching, health and safety in the workplace, and travel training. You also study English and maths alongside your placements.

Entry is by interview and initial assessment. You'll finish with an AIM Qualifications Award in Employability Skills.

Entry requirements

For Supported Internship: Entry is subject to interview, EHCP and Initial Assessments. Students should be interested in gaining employment and keen to undertake work placements.

How you will learn

You'll learn through a mix of classroom sessions and hands-on work placements. Assessment includes feedback from employers and job coaches, observation on placement, photographic evidence, witness statements, and some written work. Tutor statements are also used. The curriculum is tailored to the group and to each person's individual employment needs.
