Free Level 1 Construction Skills Course in Leeds. Classes run at Leeds College of Building, full-time during the day, over 36 weeks. You'll cover carpentry and joinery fundamentals: reading and creating drawings, marking out and cutting traditional joints, and manufacturing components such as windows, doors, and staircases. You'll also learn to fix floorboards, cupboards, and roof trusses, calculate material costs, and use hand and power tools safely. An initial assessment is part of the application process. This is a solid construction skills qualification for anyone ready to commit to full-time study.
Who this course is for
Foundation Level in Plastering: How to use plastering tools and equipment e.g. trowel and hand board; Discover the origin of plaster; How to prepare walls and ceilings of prior to applying plaster; How to apply sand/cement and lightweight plaster to various backgrounds; How to create and fix fibrous plaster work such as dado rails and ceiling centers; How to apply external render and floor screed; The various types of plasterboard that are available and how to prepare them for internal surfaces. There is also the opportunity to visit a local plasterboard plant to see how the products are manufactured
Entry requirements
If you are aged 16-18 you will complete an assessment and attend an interview. If you are aged 19 and over you will complete a basic skills assessment.

How you will learn
You'll learn through classroom-based sessions at Leeds College of Building, combining practical workshop activity with underpinning knowledge. Assessment is built around the skills and tasks covered in the course. If you are aged 16 to 18, you'll complete an assessment and attend an interview before starting. If you are 19 or over, you'll complete a basic skills assessment.
