About this course

Level 1 Construction Skills Course in Hastings. Classes run at East Sussex College Group Hastings, full-time during the day.

The course runs for one year and gives you hands-on experience across several trades. You'll work in purpose-built workshops, trying carpentry, bricklaying, painting and decorating, and plumbing tasks. You'll also cover health and safety. English and maths are part of the course too. An initial assessment checks that Level 1 is the right starting point for you.

You'll finish with a City and Guilds Level 1 Award in Construction Skills.

During this Level 1 course, you will gain general construction skills, allowing you to choose a pathway that best suits your skills and ambition.

Entry requirements

You will need to demonstrate an ability to achieve Level 1 English and maths by the end of the course through an initial assessment.

How you will learn

Learning takes place in purpose-built workshops at the college. You'll spend most of your time on practical tasks, which make up 80% of your assessment. The remaining 20% is coursework and written work that supports your practical activities.
