About this course

Free Level 1 Construction skills (Bricklaying) Course in Barrow-in-Furness. Classes run at Furness College Channelside Campus, full-time during the day. The course runs for one year and covers the core practical and technical skills bricklayers use on site. You'll work toward a City and Guilds construction skills (bricklaying) qualification, building the foundation you need to progress in the trade. You'll have an initial assessment to confirm this is the right level for you.

  • You'll practise mixing and applying mortar correctly.
  • You'll study the properties and uses of common construction materials.
  • You'll learn how to set out and build straight, angled, and curved brick structures.
  • You'll develop safe working practices relevant to construction sites.
  • You'll understand how to read and interpret basic construction drawings.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom teaching and hands-on practical sessions at Furness College Channelside Campus. Assessment is practical and skills-based, with you demonstrating bricklaying tasks to the required standard. There may also be short written or knowledge-based assessments to confirm your understanding of materials, methods, and health and safety.
