About this course

Free Level 1 Construction Course: Carpentry and Joinery in Ashton-under-Lyne. Classes run at Tameside College, part-time during the day, so you can fit study around other commitments. Over 17 weeks, you'll cover carpentry and joinery skills, health and safety in construction, and how to prepare for and carry out joinery work. To enrol, you'll need four GCSEs at grade D–G (or grade 1–3), including English and maths, plus a successful interview with a tutor. This is a practical first step into the construction industry. City and Guilds Level 1 Award in Construction Skills (Carpentry and Joinery) with certificate.

This programme is the first step to gaining a qualification in the Construction Industry, specifically in the role of Carpenter or Joiner

Entry requirements

Learners must have; 4 GCSEs grade D - G 0r 1 -3 (Must include English and maths) Successful interview with a Carpenter or Joinery tutor A genuine interest in the subject Good communication skills A hardworking approach towards the industry

Assessment is based on the units covered during the course, including practical skills and knowledge of health and safety and working practices in construction.
