About this course

Free Level 1 Computer Course. Study online, at your own pace, over 16 weeks.

The course builds the digital skills you need at work and in daily life. You'll learn to use online platforms, create and edit documents, make video calls, and fix basic device problems. No formal entry requirements. You'll complete a short initial assessment to confirm this is the right level for you.

You'll finish with a Gateway Qualifications Essential Digital Skills qualification.

Who this course is for

The qualification provides learners with the essential digital skills which are needed in a wide range of situations in life and at work. For example, successful learners will be able to make appointments, order goods and services, organise payments using online platforms, conduct video calls, create, edit and save a range of documents, and troubleshoot basic problems on their device. At Level 1 the focus is primarily on digital skills for work with a secondary focus on digital skills for life.

Entry requirements

The qualification is designed for students with little or no digital skills and there are no formal entry requirements. It is, however, useful for learners to be able to turn on and control a device, connect it to the internet and open browsers and applications. How you will learn

You study entirely online, working through materials at your own pace. Assessment is practical and task-based, showing what you can do with real digital tools. You'll be assessed on activities such as creating documents, using online services, and solving basic device problems. The centre will guide you through each stage remotely.
