
If you're interested in a career with lots of variety that allows you to work on a range of projects, then bricklaying could be the one for you! According to Goconstruct.org the construction industry is growing fast, with over 16,000 new jobs expected to be created in Yorkshire and Humberside over the next 5 years. As a bricklayer you can be part of this industry. You will learn to build everything from walls and decorative stonework to full buildings. You could also work on restoration projects, refurbishing brickwork and masonry. To become a bricklayer, you will need to be able to read plans and work in an organised way. If you enjoy doing practical things and you are interested in construction, this could be the perfect course for you. You will study the following mandatory units: -Principles of building construction, information and communication -Contribute to setting out and building of masonry structures up to damp proof course -Carrying out blocklaying activities -Carrying out bricklaying activities -Carrying out cavity walling activities -Health, safety and welfare in construction -You will complete 60 hours of work placement which will give you valuable work place experience -A full tutorial programme to improve your employability skills and support you through your course
