Free Health and Social Care Level 3 Course in Hove. Classes run at Cardinal Newman Catholic School, full-time over two years. You'll study human development, equality and diversity, anatomy, mental health, person-centred care, sexual health, nutrition, and the laws that govern health and social care settings. The course covers both exam-based and coursework units, building the analytical and communication skills that universities and employers look for. It's the equivalent of one A Level and a strong foundation for a level 3 health and social care qualification that opens doors to higher education and careers in the NHS and private sector.
Who this course is for
You will be learning about human development and the professional standards and laws that you would use to help some of the most vulnerable people in society and those with specific needs. You will evaluate how individuals are impacted by issues like major life events, mental health and low income. The BTEC is a professional course which enables progression onto higher education and a Health or Social Care career in the public (NHS) or private sector.
What you will learn
You'll explore equality, diversity, rights, and current legislation in health and social care settings.
You'll study biological knowledge and anatomy in relation to twelve major diseases and conditions.
You'll examine mental health, including its causes, impacts, and professional responses.
You'll analyse person-centred care and how professionals tailor support to individual needs.
You'll investigate sexual health, pregnancy, nutrition, and lifestyle and their effects on wellbeing.
You'll evaluate how major life events and low income affect individuals' health and development.
You'll develop problem solving, critical thinking, and communication skills used across health and social care roles.
How you will learn
Assessment is split between two exam units (40% of the course) and four coursework units (60%). The exams test your knowledge of equality, diversity, rights, legislation, and anatomy. The coursework units are project-based: you take on the perspective of a health or social care professional and consider how practice affects service users. Classes are delivered in person at Cardinal Newman Catholic School, full-time during the day.
What you will need to bring
The centre will provide most materials. Cardinal Newman Catholic School will confirm anything else you need before you start.
