Following a course in GCSE Applications in Mathematics should encourage
learners to be inspired, moved and changed by following a broad, coherent,
satisfying and worthwhile course of study. The course should help learners to
develop confidence in, and a positive attitude towards, mathematics and to
recognise the importance and relevance of mathematics, including statistics,
in helping to solve problems in the real world. Specifications should prepare
learners to make informed decisions about the use of technology, the
management of money, further learning opportunities and career choices and
to help them to function as informed citizens.
