About this course

Free GCSE Maths in Lewisham. Classes run at Brockley Adult Education Centre on weekends, so you can study without giving up your working week. The course runs over 25 weeks, part-time on Saturdays or Sundays.

You'll cover number, algebra, ratio, geometry, probability, and statistics. These are the topics that appear in the Pearson Edexcel exam. A pre-course assessment is required before you join, and priority is given to learners who have completed an introductory GCSE course.

You'll finish with a GCSE in Mathematics.

Who this course is for

Priority for enrolment will be given to learners who have completed the introductory GCSE course with ALL. We reserve the right not to offer direct entry to the GCSE course.

You will need to have a good grounding in maths and good reading and comprehension skills. If it emerges that GCSE maths is not suitable for you we can refer you to an adult functional skills or other course to support you to build your skills.

A Pre Course Assessment is required before joining this class.

What you will learn

  • You'll work with numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • You'll solve algebraic equations and work with expressions and formulae.
  • You'll apply ratio, proportion, and rates of change to real problems.
  • You'll study geometry, including angles, shapes, and measurement.
  • You'll interpret and analyse statistics and data.
  • You'll calculate probability and understand how to express likelihood.
  • You'll develop problem-solving skills across all areas of the syllabus.

How you will learn

Classes are taught in a classroom at Brockley Adult Education Centre at weekends. You'll learn through teacher-led sessions, worked examples, and practice questions. Assessment is by written exam. The Pearson Edexcel GCSE in Mathematics is assessed through three papers: one non-calculator and two calculator papers. All papers are sat at the end of the course.
