General Entry Criteria

Students wishing to follow the Level 2 Transition Year have to achieve:

  • 5 GCSEs at grade 3 or higher
  • Grade 4 or higher in either English or Mathematics.

What you will learn

  • You'll read and analyse a range of fiction and non-fiction texts.
  • You'll write for different purposes and audiences, including narrative and descriptive writing.
  • You'll develop skills in persuasive and informative writing.
  • You'll study how writers use language and structure to create effects.
  • You'll practise spoken language skills, including presenting and responding to questions.
  • You'll build skills in spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom lessons at Sandwich Technology School. The AQA GCSE English Language qualification is assessed by two written exams at the end of the course. There is no coursework, but a spoken language endorsement is assessed separately. It does not count toward your final grade but is reported on your certificate.
