Free Functional Skills Maths Level 2 in Cambridge. Classes run at Parkside Community College. Daytime sessions run part-time over 6 months, so you can fit study around other commitments. This level 2 functional skills maths course covers everyday maths including money, time, distance, shape, and position. It's the recognised GCSE maths equivalent: when employers ask for GCSE maths or equivalent, a Level 2 Functional Skills Maths Certificate meets that requirement. You'll have an initial assessment before you start to confirm this is the right level for you.

Who this course is for

United Learning offer whole year funded courses for adults from Entry Level 2 to Level 2. These courses will help you feel more confident in using numbers for everyday things like money, time, distance, shape and position and gain a qualification.  Do you need to update your CV? Did you not achieve your Maths qualification through school? Are you aged 19 or over?  You will need to complete an initial assessment prior to starting the course, where it will be discussed if you meet the criteria for a funded place.

Entry requirements

No previous experience required.  You are required to complete an initial assessment / screening of Maths levels prior to enrolment on the course – please telephone the office on 01223 712340 to make an appointment.

What you will learn

  • You'll work with numbers confidently in everyday situations, including money and budgeting.
  • You'll calculate with time, distance, and measurements.
  • You'll understand and work with shapes and spatial reasoning.
  • You'll interpret data presented in charts, tables, and graphs.
  • You'll solve multi-step problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • You'll use fractions, decimals, and percentages in practical contexts.
  • You'll apply maths skills to real tasks such as reading bills, planning journeys, and comparing prices.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom-based sessions at Parkside Community College, working through topics with a tutor and practising problem-solving individually and as a group. Assessment is by a written exam set by Pearson Edexcel. The exam tests your ability to apply maths skills to practical, everyday problems. There is no coursework component for this qualification.
