About this course

Free Functional Skills Maths Level 2 in Congleton. Classes run at Congleton Learning Centre, part-time during the day, over 38 weeks. That pace works well if you have other commitments alongside your studies. The course covers practical maths skills you can use at work and in everyday life, from handling money and measurements to interpreting data and solving problems. When employers ask for GCSE maths or equivalent, a level 2 functional skills maths qualification meets that requirement. You'll have an initial assessment first, so the centre can confirm this is the right level for you.

Who this course is for

Adults 19+. This course is ideal for anyone looking to improve their everyday maths skills or to gain a Functional Skills qualification. Functional Maths is an approach to teaching maths that helps people to gain the most out of life, learning and work. Joining a Functional Maths class will give you the opportunity to improve your maths skills and to use these skills for practical problem solving. It will build your confidence in how to use maths in all aspects of your everyday life.

Entry requirements

All prospective learners will need to complete an initial assessment. The assessment will give us an indication of your current level and learning needs. This will ensure that you are enrolled onto the correct level of Functional Skills. On completion we will either offer you a place on the course or discuss your options. Students must be aged 19+.

What you will learn

  • You'll use numbers confidently for everyday calculations, including percentages, fractions, and ratios.
  • You'll interpret charts, tables, and graphs to draw conclusions from data.
  • You'll apply maths to practical problems involving money, time, and measurements.
  • You'll work with area, perimeter, and volume in real contexts.
  • You'll use a calculator effectively and know when to work without one.
  • You'll check your answers and explain your reasoning clearly.

How you will learn

You'll attend classroom sessions at Congleton Learning Centre, working through topics with a tutor and alongside other learners. Learning is hands-on and applied, focusing on practical problem-solving rather than abstract theory. Assessment is by a written exam set by City and Guilds. You'll sit the exam when your tutor confirms you're ready.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. Congleton Learning Centre will confirm anything else you need before you start.
