Free Functional Skills Maths Level 1 in March. Daytime classes run at The March Community Centre, part-time over 11 months. That pace gives you time to fit study around other commitments. You'll work through number, measure, and data skills at Level 1, building toward the exam that earns your qualification. A level 1 functional skills maths qualification is the recognised GCSE maths alternative accepted by many employers and colleges. You will gain confidence in using maths in everyday life and work situations such as - work out price increase and decreases when shopping and paying for bills - calculate how much wallpaper and paint is needed to decorate - support with your children's maths homework - effectively budget and understand your pay slip - understand data and produce numerical reports - meeting employer needs to support employment or progression in work

Entry requirements

Prior to starting the course, you will be required to complete a brief initial assessment. This will help us understand your current starting point and allow us to tailor the course to meet your specific needs.

  • You'll use and interpret data from tables, charts, and graphs.
  • You'll apply measurement and geometry to practical problems.

How you will learn

You'll attend classroom sessions at The March Community Centre during the day. Learning is delivered face-to-face, with practice tasks and worked examples throughout the course. Assessment is by a formal written exam set by City and Guilds. You must pass the exam to earn the Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics Level 1.
