Free Entry Level Preparing for Further Learning or Employment Course in Yeovil. Full-time daytime classes run at Yeovil College, Monday to Friday from September 2026. The course runs for around 435 hours across the academic year. You'll explore different career areas, including Construction, Motor Vehicle, Art, and Catering, through taster sessions. Functional Skills English and Maths are timetabled throughout. There are no set entry requirements; you'll be assessed at the start to confirm the course is the right level for you.

Who this course is for

This is a full time course for learners who are not sure of their next step in education or who need to improve their confidence, Maths and English grades before moving across college onto their chosen vocational area. Learners will have the opportunity to investigate different career paths and experience tasters in a range of chosen vocational areas such as Construction, Motor Vehicle, Art and Catering. There are two pathways groups, one mainly focused on those who have struggled to be at school, have been home tutored or found learning difficult and as a result not achieved what they hoped to. The other pathway is for those who have English as a second language and have found the ability to access education as a result.

Entry requirements

There are no set entry requirements but learners will be expected to be able to achieve at Entry 3 or above. A keen interest in self-development and a dedicated approach to work are important.

How you will learn

Learning takes place in the classroom, Monday to Friday during daytime hours. You'll complete a range of employability, training, and personal development units. English and Maths are timetabled as Functional Skills sessions and are woven into everyday learning. You may also attend vocational taster sessions across the college and are encouraged to find voluntary or paid work on days off. Assessment is through the units you complete across the year.
