You must be 19+ at the beginning of the academic year to enrol on this course and be a resident within the EU for 3 years+.

What you will learn

  • You'll read and understand everyday texts, including signs, forms, and short documents.
  • You'll write clearly for everyday purposes, such as notes, messages, and simple forms.
  • You'll spell common words correctly and use basic punctuation.
  • You'll listen and respond in straightforward conversations and discussions.
  • You'll speak clearly to communicate information and ask questions.
  • You'll identify the main points in short spoken and written material.

How you will learn

You'll learn in a classroom at Dukeries Campus, with daytime sessions across the week. Assessment for the NOCN Functional Skills Qualification in English (Entry 3) includes a reading task, a writing task, and a speaking and listening assessment. These are completed during the course and marked against the national standard for Entry Level 3.
