About this course

Free Entry Level Exploring Occupational Studies for the Workplace Course. Study online. This course is for adults aged 19 or over who volunteer or are about to start volunteering, and whose first language is not English. You study at your own pace, so it fits around your other commitments. The course takes around 25 hours to complete. You will need to show a sufficient level of spoken and written English to take part. If you are not already on an ESOL course with Devon Adult Education, you will be asked to complete a short writing task before you start.

Who this course is for

This course is for individuals 19+ who are volunteering or are about to start volunteering, and whose first language is not English (ESOL learners).

Entry requirements

This course is at Entry Level 3 so you will have demonstrate a sufficient level or spoken and written English to take part. If you are on a Learn Devon ESOL course we can see what level you are at. If you are not on a Learn Devon ESOL course, you will be asked to complete a short writing task.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop the English vocabulary and communication skills used in workplace and volunteering settings.
  • You'll learn how to understand and follow instructions in a work environment.
  • You'll explore common workplace roles and what they involve.
  • You'll practise reading and responding to everyday workplace documents.
  • You'll build confidence using written and spoken English in work-based situations.

How you will learn

You study online, working through materials at your own pace. Assessment is based on tasks and activities you complete during the course. These are designed to show what you have learned in workplace and volunteering contexts. Devon Adult Education will guide you through the process and let you know what is expected before you begin.
