Free Entry Level ESOL Skills for Life (speaking and listening) Course in Peterborough. Classes run at Peterborough College, full-time during the day. You'll have an interview before you start to check your level and make sure this is the right course for you. The course runs over 36 weeks. You'll study speaking and listening in English alongside others learning together in a classroom setting. This entry level ESOL skills for life qualification focuses on spoken communication, helping you use English with more confidence in everyday situations.

Who this course is for

These ESOL courses are for young people aged 16-18 who live in the UK permanently or who have asylum seeker / refugee status and who want to improve their English by having face to face teaching and learning in college. You will be able to meet and study with other people from other countries share experiences and learn together over a full academic year. Courses are available at Entry Levels - Level 2 including Pre-Entry during the day.

Entry requirements

You will have an interview to check your level and/or show any English language qualifications you already have before you start.

What you will learn

  • You'll speak clearly in everyday conversations in English.
  • You'll listen and respond to spoken English in familiar situations.
  • You'll follow simple instructions and questions given in English.
  • You'll take part in short discussions with other people.
  • You'll use appropriate language when speaking in different everyday contexts.

How you will learn

You'll learn through face-to-face classroom sessions at Peterborough College. Teaching is delivered in English, with group activities and conversation practice. Assessment for the Pearson Edexcel Award is based on speaking and listening tasks. You'll be assessed on your ability to communicate in spoken English in everyday situations. There is no written exam for this qualification.
