Entry requirements
There are no specific entry requirements except being aged between 16 and 18 years old. You will be given an initial assessment at your interview to look at your level of English. This will help us to put you into the right class.

You'll identify the main points and details in written passages.
You'll develop your understanding of vocabulary used in common situations.
You'll practise reading different types of texts, including forms, notices, and short articles.
You'll build your ability to read independently in English.

How you will learn
You'll learn in a classroom at Newham College London East Ham Campus, with daytime classes running five days a week over 36 weeks. Your English level is assessed at the start so you join the right class. Assessment for the Ascentis Award is through tasks and activities that test your reading skills directly. Your progress is reviewed throughout the course.
