About this course

Free BTEC Level 3 Sports Coaching Course in Cranfield. Classes run at Cranfield Pavilion, full-time during the day.

This Level 3 BTEC sports coaching qualification covers careers in the sport and active leisure industry, health and wellbeing in sport, and developing coaching skills. The course takes around 11 months to complete. You'll build the knowledge and skills needed to work in sports coaching and development roles, or to progress to higher education.

You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel BTEC National Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development.

Who this course is for

The BTEC National Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development is intended for post-16 students who want to progress directly to employment, including self-employment, in sports coaching and development roles. It is also suitable for those wishing to progress to higher education, where students have the added advantage of using the qualification to help them obtain part-time employment while studying.

Entry requirements

Students must have completed the BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sports Coaching and Development. Based off the Unit requirements for the 720 and 1080 GLH BTECs, we expect that students would top up to the corresponding second year programme. This is due to the number of units required to complete when topping up from the Extended Certificate to the Extended Diploma and students wanting to move to the Diploma from the Foundation Diploma would only do 1 mandatory unit of 180 GLH.

What you will learn

  • You'll explore careers in the sport and active leisure industry.
  • You'll develop practical coaching skills for working with individuals and groups.
  • You'll study health, wellbeing, and their relationship to sport and physical activity.
  • You'll learn how to plan, deliver, and review coaching sessions.
  • You'll develop essential employability skills for the sport sector.
  • You'll apply your learning in real work contexts through practical activities.

How you will learn

The BTEC National Diploma is assessed through a combination of coursework assignments and practical tasks. You'll complete units that require you to demonstrate knowledge and apply skills in realistic sport and coaching contexts. Assessment is ongoing throughout the course rather than through a single final exam.
