About this course

Free BTEC Level 3 Sport, Fitness and Personal Training Course in Ipswich. Classes run at One Sixth Form College, full-time during the day over two years. This is a vocational course built around the knowledge and skills the fitness industry expects. It is accredited by CIMSPA and developed with the Register of Exercise Professionals, so the level 3 BTEC sport, fitness and personal training qualification carries real weight with employers. You'll need five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English Language, Maths, and at least one Science.

Who this course is for

The Sport, Fitness & Personal Training Level 3 Extended Diploma is truly vocational, providing the opportunity to gain the industry standard qualifications required to enter a career in the fitness industry directly upon successful completion. Accredited by the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) and written in collaboration with the Register of Exercise Professionals (REP’s), this course provides learners with the opportunity to gain the knowledge, confidence, inter-personal skills and work experience needed to take their first steps into a career in the fitness industry.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 9 to 4, including a grade 4 in GCSE English Language; Mathematics; at least one Science (preferably Biology); and PE (if taken). If you have studied a BTEC First in Sport, you will need to achieve at least a Merit grade overall.

What you will learn

  • You'll develop the knowledge to plan and deliver personal training sessions safely and effectively.
  • You'll study anatomy and physiology as they apply to sport and exercise.
  • You'll learn how to assess clients' fitness levels and design programmes to meet their goals.
  • You'll explore nutrition principles and how diet supports physical performance.
  • You'll build understanding of health screening and safe exercise referral.
  • You'll study the business and professional skills needed to work as a personal trainer.

How you will learn

Learning is classroom-based and practical, combining taught sessions with hands-on fitness work. Assessment is through assignments, projects, and practical demonstrations rather than traditional exams. This is a BTEC qualification, so your work builds throughout the course. You'll complete units that are assessed as you go, with grades contributing to your overall Diploma result.

What you will need to bring

All students are expected to wear clothing and footwear appropriate for a personal trainer in a professional setting. This includes a college-branded tracksuit and polo shirt. One Sixth Form College will confirm the details and costs of these items before you start.
