About this course
Free BTEC in Health and Social Care at The Langley Academy in Langley. This full-time daytime course runs over two years and covers the knowledge and skills needed to work in health and social care settings. You'll study topics including human development, anatomy and physiology, safeguarding, and care values. The level 3 BTEC in health and social care qualification is a Pearson Edexcel qualification that carries UCAS points, so it can support progression to university as well as employment.
Who this course is for
This course is for students who want to continue studying biology after GCSE. You'll already be familiar with some of the topics but the A level will give you the chance to study these and some new ones, in much greater depth. You might be choosing biology because you're headed for a healthcare or scientific career, though it will give you a set of skills that can be used in a wide range of non-scientific careers too. This course links well with most other A level subjects but particularly with those such as Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Geography and Psychology.
What you will learn
You'll explore human growth and development across the life stages.
You'll study anatomy and physiology relevant to health and social care practice.
You'll learn about safeguarding principles and how to protect vulnerable people.
You'll examine health and social care values, including person-centred approaches.
You'll develop understanding of mental health, well-being, and factors affecting health.
You'll learn how communication skills apply in care settings.
You'll investigate the structure and provision of health and social care services in the UK.
How you will learn
Learning is classroom based at The Langley Academy, combining taught sessions with independent study. Pearson Edexcel BTEC National qualifications are assessed through a mix of internally assessed assignments and externally assessed examinations. Assignments are set by your centre and marked internally. External assessments are set and marked by Pearson Edexcel. There is no single end-of-course exam; assessment is spread across the two years of study.
What you will need to bring
The centre will provide most materials. The Langley Academy will confirm anything else you need before you start.
