About this course

Free BTEC in Health and Social Care in Melton Mowbray. Classes run at Melton Vale Sixth Form College, full-time over two years. The Level 3 BTEC in Health and Social Care course covers two core themes: what affects individual health and wellbeing, and how government and other schemes support the nation's health. As a single-award qualification equivalent to one A Level, this level 3 BTEC in health and social care qualification fits alongside other A Levels or BTEC courses on your timetable. To enrol, you'll need GCSE grade 4 or above in English and Maths, plus three grade 5s in other subjects.

Who this course is for

This subject can be broadly split into two themes: Health (the study of what can impact on the wellbeing and overall health of an individual); Social care (how the Government and other schemes put into place initiatives to improve the nation's health and wellbeing).

The BTEC Extended Certificate course is a single award and is equivalent to one A-Level, taking up 2 options on your timetable. This course will give you the flexibility and freedom to study other BTEC courses or A-levels.

The course will prepare you for a range of related occupations without limiting choice too early. It allows a flexible approach to learning through coursework and exams to prepare you for university and the career you wish to pursue.

You will study a range of different topics all related to the Health and Social Care sector from the following options: Enquiries into Current Research; Human Lifespan Development, Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs, Nutritional Health, Physiological Disorders, Principles of Safe Practice, Promoting Public Health, Psychological Perspectives, Sociological Perspectives, Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs, Working in Health and Social Care.

Studying the BTEC Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care can lead into employment (or further study) in Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work, Healthcare Assistant, or Teacher training.
