This is a degree-level apprenticeship (Level 6) mapped to the Aerospace Engineer Apprenticeship Standard ST0010. You'll develop engineering expertise through a problem-based curriculum, tackling challenges including aerospace sustainability and manufacturing. The course runs on a day or block release basis over three years. You must be employed by an aerospace-related organisation to enrol.

Who this course is for

Aerospace engineers find creative solutions to problems of industry, the environment and society. Our Aerospace Engineering Apprenticeship (Level 6) trains aerospace professionals to become qualified engineers. Train with us and prepare to solve real-world engineering challenges, such as the sustainability of the aerospace industry.

Our new inclusive, problem-based curriculum will broaden our engineering audience, enabling students from a wider range of backgrounds to pursue a career in engineering. The course is already popular with employers, such as Airbus, Rolls-Royce and GKN, to name a few.

This curriculum is mapped to the Aerospace Engineer Apprenticeship Standard, approved by employers from across the aerospace sector, and by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE). Professional Bodies such as the Royal Aeronautical Society have been involved in this process, ensuring our graduate engineers achieve the required skills and competencies.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths All apprentices must be employed by an aerospace-related organisation.

The apprentice must hold current registration with one of the statutory regulators of aerospace professions e.g. i.e. The Royal Aeronautical Society.

What you will learn

  • You'll apply engineering principles to solve real-world aerospace manufacturing challenges.
  • You'll develop knowledge of aerospace systems, structures, and materials.
  • You'll analyse sustainability issues facing the aerospace industry.
  • You'll use problem-based learning to tackle industry-relevant engineering scenarios.
  • You'll build practical, hands-on skills alongside degree-level technical knowledge.
  • You'll work toward the competencies required by the Aerospace Engineer Apprenticeship Standard.

How you will learn

Learning is delivered through classroom-based and practice-led sessions on a day or block release pattern. The curriculum is problem-based, meaning you'll work through real engineering challenges as part of your studies. Assessment is mapped to the Aerospace Engineer Apprenticeship Standard ST0010, which includes the requirements set by Skills England and informed by employers across the aerospace sector.

What you will need to bring

The centre will provide most materials. UWE Bristol will confirm anything else you need before you start.

Where next

Jobs you could do

  • Aerospace engineer: design, test, and develop aircraft and systems
  • Manufacturing engineer: optimise production processes in aerospace
  • Structural engineer: analyse and design aerospace structures
  • Systems engineer: integrate complex aerospace systems
  • Quality assurance engineer: ensure manufacturing meets aerospace standards
