Working in partnership with Woodhouse Park Lifestyle Centre, a community facility in Wythenshawe, Royal College Manchester has created a number of job-carved intern roles with responsibilities including hospitality, cleaning, laundry, workplace inspections and caretaker duties. Interns combine college sessions with work-based learning, developing their independence, communication and functional skills with a focus on progression to supported employment.
Promote and develop communication and social interaction skills with a particular focus on teamwork, understanding appropriate behaviour and engaging with members of the community. Develop skills and understanding necessary for supported work e.g. following routines and coping with change, completing new tasks, communicating with colleagues, and reflecting on their work. Promote community engagement through work experience placements, community visits, developing skills for public transport and leisure options Develop practical skills for independence, including cooking, household tasks and shopping Develop the ability to make and communicate decisions about daily life, work and activities, and plan for the future Develop self-awareness, self-esteem and confidence Prepare for working interviews, creating CVs, searching and applying for work.
