About this course

Free AAT Level 2 Bookkeeping Course in Southwark. Classes run at Southwark College Main Campus, part-time during the day, over 12 weeks.

The course covers double-entry bookkeeping, basic accounting principles, and core business skills. You'll also develop transferable skills that employers value in finance and business roles. You need AAT Level 1 or GCSE grades A to C (grade 4 or above) to join. There's also a college interview and assessment.

You'll finish with a Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping.

Who this course is for

Students should choose the Level 2 Certificate in Accounting if they are interested in developing transferable business and personal skills alongside their core accountancy skills. This qualification may also be valuable for those entering the workplace for the first time or for those changing careers who would like additional support in upskilling to enter, or re-enter, a business environment.

AAT qualifications benefit from being globally recognised and they are valued by leading employers, from small high street firms to large accountancy businesses.

This qualification comprises four mandatory units, Introduction to Bookkeeping, Principles of Bookkeeping Controls, Principles of Costing and The Business Environment.

Working in accountancy requires good communication skills, information technology (IT) skills and an understanding of the business environment, as well as an understanding of daily finance/accounting functions. The purpose of this qualification is to ensure that students are well rounded and well prepared to progress into a career in business, finance or professional accountancy, or into further education.

The four units are assessed individually through computer-based end-of-unit assessments.
