About this course

Free A Level Chemistry course in Sheffield. Classes run at King Ecgbert School, full-time over two years. You'll study physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and organic chemistry, working through 12 core practicals that connect theory to real chemical processes. To join, you'll need a grade 6 or above in GCSE Chemistry (or 7-7 in Combined Science), plus a grade 6 or above in GCSE Maths. You should also be studying Maths alongside this course. The AQA level 3 a level chemistry qualification is widely used as a foundation for university study in chemistry, medicine, pharmacy, and related sciences.

Who this course is for

The new AQA specification is designed to ensure that the subject content can be delivered using a variety of approaches highlighting its relevance to real world experiences. There are numerous opportunities to use practical experiences to link theory to reality and to inspire students, nurture their passion for chemistry and lay the groundwork for further study.

There are 3 units taught over 2 years, incpororating 12 core practicals.

Unit 1: Physical Chemistry

Unit 2: Inorgnic Chemistry

Unit 3: Organic Chemistry

The AS course is based on the 1st half of each unit.

The A level covers the whole of the 3 units.

The AS and the A level course are fully co teachable.

Entry requirements

6 in Chemistry Grade 6 or above in Maths If combined science studied requirement is 7-7 There is an expectation that students will be studying some form of Maths

What you will learn

  • You'll carry out 12 core practicals, developing hands-on laboratory technique and data analysis skills.
  • You'll interpret and evaluate experimental results, drawing conclusions from quantitative data.
  • You'll apply mathematical skills to chemical calculations, including moles, concentrations, and rates.

How you will learn

You'll learn through classroom teaching and laboratory practicals at King Ecgbert School. The AQA specification is assessed by written examinations at the end of Year 2. There are three exam papers covering physical, inorganic, and organic chemistry. Practical skills are assessed separately through a Practical Endorsement, recorded as a pass or fail alongside your A Level grade.
