Entry requires five GCSEs at grade 5 or above, including grade 5 in Dance or Drama.

Who this course is for

COURSE CONTENT Creativity and performance are at the heart of our course. “Investigating Practitioners Work” helps our students develop analytical skills that are essential when studying performing arts subjects at university. “Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performance”, “Final Live Performance to an Audience” and “Group Performance Workshop”, are assessed through live performances at internal and external events such as Breakout, Trinity Dance Festival and BTEC Sharing evenings. Through studying “Performing Arts in the Community” and “Individual Performance Commission” our students become confident and mature choreographers and directors, creating work for students in events such as House Performing Arts and for one of the many lower school Dance Companies. The work is then toured to local primary schools. Technique in Dance is refined through units on “Jazz Dance” and “Developing Contemporary Dance”. You will be challenged with Cunningham, Graham, Horton and Release based techniques. ASSESSMENT DETAILS Assessment for this course is predominantly practical; five units are internally assessed and three are externally assessed. For the internally assessed units you will need to collect evidence of your work for a portfolio. This will need to include film and photographs of lessons, workshops, rehearsals and performances, a reflective diary, rehearsal schedules, research, programmes from shows visited, etc. You will also be set essays, research tasks and presentations. For the externally assessed units you will be assessed through practical work, portfolios and examinations within a timeframe as outlined by the exam board You will also be set essays, research tasks and presentations. For the externally assessed units you will be assessed through practical work, portfolios and examinations within a time frame as outlined by the exam board.
