About this course

Access to HE Health Science Professions Course. Study online at your own pace over one year. It's free for some learners, and fees may apply for others. Advanced Learner Loans are available for eligible students. This Level 3 Access to HE course is recognised by universities across the UK, including Anglia Ruskin University, the University of Essex, and the University of East London. You'll build knowledge in human biology, health and disease, psychology, and genetics, alongside academic writing, research, and numeracy skills. You must be aged 19 or over and hold GCSE English grade C/4 or above, or Level 2 Functional Skills English.

Who this course is for

An Access to Higher Education Diploma will enable you to go to university if you don’t currently have the qualifications you need. They are widely recognised by most universities, including local institutes such as Anglia Ruskin University, the University of Essex and the University of East London.

Entry requirements

You must be aged 19 or over at registration You must have English Language GCSE grade C/4 or above or Level 2 Functional Skills English. It is desirable that you also have GCSE/L2 Maths but if not, then a commitment to study it alongside your Access course is required as most universities require both English and Maths. We offer GCSE Maths as a face-to-face evening course or alternatively if you want to study online we recommend Academy Online as one of our partners.

What you will learn

  • You'll study human biology, including cells, the endocrine system, the musculoskeletal system, and the nervous system.
  • You'll explore health and disease, genetics, and human reproduction.
  • You'll develop academic writing and information literacy skills for university-level study.
  • You'll build research skills through a research project.
  • You'll practise numeracy in a health context.
  • You'll study professional behaviours relevant to nursing and health professions.
  • You'll develop presentation skills and learn how to use generative AI safely and ethically.
  • You'll research and understand opportunities in higher education.

How you will learn

You study online, fitting learning around your schedule. Assessment is through written assignments, presentations, and research tasks. One day is spent in college and one day online each week. You'll complete a research project as part of the course. There are no formal exams.
