This Ascentis Diploma is a university access course designed for people who want to move into teacher training. The course runs for one year. You'll build the academic knowledge and study skills universities expect. Units cover education theory, child development, and the skills needed for Initial Teacher Training degree courses. GCSE Maths, English, and a Science subject at grade C or above are required for most ITT degree courses. Around 12 months of classroom experience is also strongly recommended before applying.

You'll finish with the Access to Higher Education Diploma: Education at Level 3.

Who this course is for

The Access to HE course is a one-year, full-time, Level 3 course specifically designed to enable you to develop the knowledge and study skills to progress into Higher Education.--You may already have some qualifications at GCSE, NVQ, BTEC or A level but not enough to get to university.--The Access course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to achieve your goal of becoming a Primary School Teacher. You need to be very committed to study and focused on your career choice. If you want to become a secondary school teacher you can take another Access to HE course and then study for a specialist degree before taking a PGCE.

Entry requirements

--GCSE Maths, English and a Science subject at Grade C or above are required for Initial Teacher Training (ITT) degree courses--Approximately 12 months classroom experience (voluntary or paid) as competition for ITT courses is high--Strong desire to study
