Who this course is for

This course is for anyone who wants or needs to acquire the basic First Aid skills and knowledge needed to apply first aid within the workplace.

What you will learn

  • You'll learn how to assess an emergency situation safely and call for help.
  • You'll practise CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
  • You'll learn how to place an unconscious casualty in the recovery position.
  • You'll learn how to manage choking in adults.
  • You'll learn how to treat wounds, bleeding, and shock.
  • You'll learn how to recognise and respond to common medical emergencies, including seizures and heart attacks.
  • You'll learn how to record and report first aid incidents in the workplace.

How you will learn

The course is delivered in a classroom over one day. You'll take part in practical demonstrations and hands-on exercises, including CPR practice on a manikin. Assessment is through a practical skills assessment and a short knowledge check carried out during the day. There is no written exam to take home.
