About this course

Free Level 3 Business Course in Ilford. Classes run at Loxford School, full-time over two years.

The course covers business theory and practice in depth. You'll study units spanning marketing, finance, human resources, and business operations. To enrol, you'll need five GCSEs at grades 4 to 9, including English.

You'll finish with a Pearson Edexcel BTEC National Extended Diploma in Business.

Who this course is for

The Extended Diploma is a two year, full-time course. The BTEC Business course is for learners who want to progress to higher education courses in business areas before entering employment. It can also support learners who want to progress directly to employment in job roles in business or business management and Higher Apprenticeships. The course consists of a combination of theoretical and practical units to help students gain an in-depth understanding of the environment around them.

What could this qualification lead to?

The qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as contributing to meeting admission requirements for many courses if taken alongside other qualifications as part of a two year programme of learning. It will support entry to many higher education courses, depending on the other qualifications learners have taken. Learners should always check the entry requirements for degree programmes at specific higher education providers. The qualification can also support progression to employment directly, or via an Apprenticeship.

How does the qualification provide employability skills?

In the BTEC National units there are opportunities during the teaching and learning phase to give learners practice in developing employability skills. Where employability skills are referred to in this specification, we are generally referring to skills in the following three main categories:

  • Cognitive and problem-solving skills: use critical thinking, approach non-routine problems applying expert and creative solutions, use systems and technology
  • Intrapersonal skills: communicating, working collaboratively, negotiating and influencing, self-presentation
  • Interpersonal skills: self-management, adaptability and resilience, self-monitoring and development.
